The Institute derived its name for co-memorating a historic pronouncement made by late Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi in a crowded Press Conference in USA in 1984. He visualized that for taking leap to the 21st Century, technological upgradation would be the sine-quanon in order to balance the disparities existing in India. The visionary leader had particularly stressed on the need to improve work culture, search for hidden talents, canalization of in-born skill among rural people, regeneration of village industries, handicrafts and so forth. The organisers felt that Rajiv Gandhi's vision needed to be implemented to achieve these dynamic and radical ideas. Hence the name of Rajiv Open Institute.

This Institute is located in Silchar, the district head quarter of Cachar district of Assam (India).

Employment

The rapid rat-race for white-collar jobs, has been responsible for frustration amongst rural youth besides economic imbalance in rural areas and loss of traditional skills.
In order to combat these evils, the youths of this underprivileged segment need some sort of orientation in the modern techniques of farming, craft etc. so as to establish themselves in meaningful manner. With this end in view, R.O.I. was set up. Our job is to show the angry generation the path to respectability & profitability. We want to tame them not by bullets & bayonets, but by love & affection. We are supplementing the activities of the Govt. to achieve the common goal.
